Black Sapote is one of the Tropical Exotic Fruit of Costa Rica
Green-skinned fruit of an ornamental evergreen. The black sapote doesn’t just taste nice, it’s a dieter’s dream-come-true. Black Sapote is high In vitamin C, actually it contains four times the vitamin C found in a single orange, and significant amounts of Calcium and Phosphorus and very low in fat.
The flesh is a chocolate brown have sweetish chocolate taste and rich flavor. Ripens quickly and becomes soft, that is when it it ready to be consumed.
You can eat it fresh with lemon juice or a little vanilla, you can make preserves or in bread and deserts.
It is native to Mexico, Costa Rica, grown in South Florida, Caribbean Hawaii, California.
The sticky texture of the fruit might put you off at first, but the unique flavor of a ripe black Sapote is totally worth it.
