Wild Life in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the world’s most popular destinations for eco-tourists because of its biodiversity. Nowhere else in the world are so many types of habitats squeezed into such a tiny area. It has been stated in various places that Costa Rica may contain as much as 6% of the world’s plant and animal species in an area the combined size of the U.S. states of Vermont and New Hampshire. The range of habitats in Costa Rica, a result of its unique geography, creates an extremely rich variety of flora and fauna – in fact no other country on the planet has such variety. Measured in terms of number of species per 10,000 sq km Costa Rica tops the list of countries at 615 species comparatively poor USA with its 104 species. This simple fact makes Costa Rica the premier destination for nature lovers from all over the world.

Both tropical plant and animal species abound in Costa Rica. Some of the more striking plants range from huge ficus trees with epiphytes abounding on their limbs to approximately 1500 different orchids. The animals are equally as impressive, whether it’s a jaguar or the ever-elusive Margay, or the wonderful birds like the green or scarlet macaws. The amphibians are also quite impressive; the poison dart frogs with their bright colors are bound to catch your attention, or the giant cane toads. There are many things to do in Costa Rica and watching a wild life is on of the best things to do in Guanacaste Costa Rica for any nature lover.
